Hive’s Holiday Stress Busters

The holiday season is in full swing.  The mall parking lot is full, the store lines are long, you can’t find a radio station without hearing a Christmas carol or two–and you can’t push a cart through Wegmans!  In fact, just the thought of “going out there” can be maddening.

We’re here to help!

Read these quick tips for easing the tension this holiday season.  We’ll have you saying “ommmmmmm” in no time.

  1. Take a yoga class.  The benefits of yoga are endless.  One of the major benefits of yoga is stress reduction and relaxation.  It’s one of the best things that you can do for your mind, body and spirit.  If you’ve never tried yoga, give one of our classes a shot.  If you’re a yogi already, try to squeeze in an extra class this week—your mind (and family) will thank you later.
  2. Remember to laugh.  Laughter is the best medicine after all!  One study suggests that healthy children may laugh as much as 400 times per day, but adults tend to laugh only 15 times per day.  Lesson?  Stop being so serious!  Make a dinner date with your friends or partner, go to a comedy club, rent or go to a funny movie.  Another idea is to try something that you’ve never done before (or haven’t tried in a long time)—like going to sky zone, rock climbing or even bowling!
  3. Schedule some “me” time.   Life will pull you in a million directions if you let it.  Leaving no time for you.  So make a date with yourself.  Treat yourself to a massage, mani or pedi.  Pour yourself a nice glass of wine and relax in front of the TV.  Or make an appointment with a Hive personal trainer for some time to focus on your body and fitness goals.
  4. Get hot.  After killing it at the gym, give those muscles a break.  Draw yourself a hot bath and throw in some bath salts.  Or stop into our dry sauna for a few minutes.  The heat will help you release tension and anxiety.
  5. Push your limits.   Switch up your fitness routine or try an exercise class or  that you’ve never taken before.  After a boot camp session or group session with one of our trainers, you’ll be so preoccupied, you’ll forget all about holiday stress.  And all those endorphins will help too!

Overall, try to smile and approach every holiday detail with optimism and a positive attitude.
